8 July 2019 – Public relations professionals, academics and students from across the world will be heading to Auckland, New Zealand (Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa) for the 11th World Public Relations Forum to be held in October 2020.

The Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management has announced that the Public Relations Institute of New Zealand (PRINZ) has won the bid to host their next forum.

What drew us to New Zealand was the country being a melting pot of creativity, diversity and a solid ethical culture and a compelling bid from PRINZ”, said Jose Manuel Velasco, Chair of the Global Alliance board. “We feel that New Zealand does well to combine innovation and tradition and we are looking forward to inspire and encourage the PR profession. WPRF2020 will challenge communicators to think ahead as well as reflect back on their practices.”

PRINZ CEO Elaine Koller said WPRF2020 gives New Zealand an opportunity to showcase diverse professional talent. “We are delighted to have won this bid. There is a strong community of communicators here and together we are looking forward to creating an engaging forum and embracing our international visitors with the manaakitanga (hospitality) that New Zealanders are famous for.”

The theme for World Public Relations Forum 2020 is ‘Connecting with Courage’. Hosted over 12-15 October 2020, the forum will provide an opportunity for the global public relations and communications management profession to share, learn and hold conversations about connecting with courage through the four lenses of conscience, culture, capability and
creativity.

Held every two years, the WPRF brings together practitioners, researchers and academics from around the world to share knowledge, discuss new research and ideas, and respond to current opportunities and challenges in the field of professional communication.

Previous hosts of the World Public Relations Forum include: Oslo (2018), Toronto (2016), Madrid (2014), Melbourne (2012), Stockholm (2010), London (2008), Cape Town (2007), Brasilia (2006), Trieste (2004) and Rome (2001).
