Thursday, 17th Feb 2022: ASEAN PR Network (APRN), World Communications Malaysia (WorldComm) and Institute PR Malaysia (IPRM) in collaboration with 4 Universities; LSPR Communication & Business Institute (Indonesia), De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (Philippines), Universiti Teknologi MARA (Malaysia) and Hosei University (Japan) successfully held the “Global Alliance Asia-Pacific Student and Practitioners Online Conference on Ethics!” as part of the #EthicsMatter #EthicsMonth by Global Alliance.

The conference started with opening remarks by Ms. Candy Hernandez, the Managing Director of ASEAN PR Network who was also the MC for the conference and continued with a welcome speech from Mr. Jaffri Amin Osman, Managing Consultant of World Comm Malaysia, Vice President of Institute PR Malaysia, Chair of Global Alliance for Asia Pacific Region and moderator for the discussion session.

The main discussion started with a presentation from Dr. Wan Norbani Wan Noordin, Director of Transnational Education Department, ICEPS, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UITM) Malaysia with the topic “Media Literacy and Ethics”. After the presentation of the first speaker, Mr. Jaffri gave an opportunity for the students from De La Salle University- Philippine to ask questions to Dr. Wan. The interactive session then continued with a presentation by Mr. Nico Wattimena, Ph.D, MCIPR, a senior lecturer at LSPR Communication & Business Institute, Indonesia – sharing about the topic of “Sustainability or Greenwashing”. In this session, students from Hosei University Japan had the opportunity to share and satisfy their curiosity about sustainability and greenwashing.

Next, the session continued with a presentation by Prof. Marco M. Polo who talked about “Global Journalism Ethics & Standards: Convergence or Diversity?” and then students from UiTM Malaysia excitedly and critically asked questions about the topic to Prof. Marco. The discussion continued with a presentation from Dr. Ryuhei Sano, Hosei University Japan on “Ethics in Employment Disability”. And then, students from LSPR had the opportunity to raise questions to the speaker. Before ending the discussion, Mr. Jaffri asked Ms. Fiona Cassidy a Board Member of Global Alliance and President of PR Institute of New Zealand to give her point of statement on the discussion.

The conference then ended with a special wrap up by Mr. Jaffri Amin Osman as the moderator. He stated, “Ethics is important to build a better environment for everyone around and maximize the knowledge we have to use in work”, and this was followed with a group photo led by Ms. Candy Hernandez.
