Jakarta, 2st October 2018 – ASEAN Secretary-General sent a letter of condolence regarding the disaster and large-scale destruction from a 7.4-magnitude earthquake and tsunami that hit Donggala, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia on 28 September 2018.

ASEAN Secretary-General conveyed heartfelt condolences to the people of Indonesia for the loss of lives, the displacement of families and the widespread damage to property and infrastructure because of this disaster also deepest sympathy and solidarity to the grieving families of the victims and all those affected by this calamity.

The BNPB of Indonesia (National Board for Disaster Management) announced on Sunday morning 30th of September that at least 800 people had been confirmed dead. Meanwhile, the number of victims was likely to increase as rescue teams had yet to reach all the affected areas.

The ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Centre) stand ready and remain committed to support the Government of Indonesia, as guided by the spirit of One ASEAN One Response.
