Jakarta – 8 August 2018, The Representative of ASEAN Network was invited to attend the launch of ASEAN Artist Residency Programme. The programme was kick-started with a mini-exhibition of Entang Wiharso, one of Indonesia’s leading contemporary artists, at the ASEAN Gallery.

The Artists Residency Programme underlines ASEAN’s commitment to promote and instil appreciation for arts and culture in the region among ASEAN citizens with a view to enhance people-to-people connectivity through an exhibition of Mr. Entang Wiharso’s – Crosses Borders and Cultures Through Art.

The artwork created by Entang Wiharso explores cross-cultural interactions between modern – day borders. It was shown during the ASEAN’s 51st Anniversary at the ASEAN Secretariat.

“Art is a very effective tool because its language is very universal” he said. Entitled Diam Berdiri (Standing Silently), Mama Bear 1 and Mama Bear 2, the pieces convey a powerful message of protecting youths as they try to adapt to today’s changing political climate and global influences, both good and bad.
