Tuesday, 5th of May 2015, the ASEAN Cosmetic Association held a Cosmetics Leaders Forum 2015 at Hotel Borobudur Jakarta.

The ceremony was opened by Mrs. Juanita Aditiawan, the Head of Organizing Committees and welcome remarks were made by Mrs. Nuning S. Barwa, President of ASEAN Cosmetics Association followed by an opening speech made by the Indonesian Health Minister.

Mr. Ir. Harjanto, M. Eng. (Director General of Manufacturing Based Industry) in Session 1, mentioned that Indonesia is one of the biggest in terms of GDP size in total and they are now focusing on more opportunities in ASEAN + 6. The population is growing as well as natural resources hence the investors from many countries are interested in Indonesia. He also mentioned that we should try to reduce the tariff, for the sake of consumers and hope to gain more opportunities to sell the products in other parts of the world. The ASEAN Vision 2020 stated in his PowerPoint was “To transform ASEAN into a stable, prosperous and highly competitive region with equitable economic development and reduced poverty and socio-economic disparities” followed by 4 Pillars of AEC.

One other speaker, Mr. Roy A. Sparringa, Head of Badan POM (The National Agency for Drug and Food Control, the Republic of Indonesia) discussed the “Overview on Cosmetic Regulatory Framework and Development of SME’s Potential”. He had explained about illegal products being imported into Indonesia, how hard it is for inspectors to differentiate whether legal or illegal for not all products are safe and includes harmful chemicals. He also advised that for those who comply the exposure assessment in cosmetics are doing well so far.

ASEAN Public Relations Network, as a media partner of ASEAN Cosmetics Association, hopes to give a helping hand in promoting local brands and hopes to maintain a good professional relationship between the two organizations.
