August 8, Jakarta: The ASEAN Prize is a prestigious regional award given annually to acknowledge the inspiring achievements of ASEAN citizens or ASEAN-based organizations in fostering the ASEAN identity, promoting the ASEAN spirit and championing the ASEAN way, in the following areas: collaboration between ASEAN Member States (AMSs); collaboration between ASEAN and the world; people-to-people engagement among ASEAN Member States; economic integration and promotion of standards between AMSs; or Excellent contribution to ASEAN Community Building.
The ASEAN Prize Talk was integrated in the 52nd ASEAN Day Open-House Celebration held on Thursday, August 8 2019 at Nusantara Hall, New ASEAN Secretariat Building with the topic “What more can ASEAN do to support people with disabilities?”.
The event was led by the moderator, Ms. Sita Sumrit as Assistant Director of Poverty Eradication and Gender Division of ASEAN Secretariat and the panelists were Ms. Erlinda U Koe – 2018 ASEAN Prize Recipient; Mr. Tolhas Damanik – AGENDA Disability Rights Advisor; Mr. Jasper Rom – Senior Officer, ASEAN Secretariat; and Ms. Candy Hernandez, M.Si – representative from The London School Beyond Academy and Parent of a child with autism spectrum disorder. The talk was very interesting and touching as the panelists shared their statements and also their personal life experiences in understanding people with disabilities.
At the end of the event, Ms. Sita Sumrit as the moderator gave a closing statement and Deputy Secretary General AKP Mochtan together with Mr. Lee Yoong Yoong Community Relations Department awarded appreciation to all panelists.
