The ASEAN Women’s Circle (AWC) held ASEAN Street Food Festival on the 12th of June, 2015 at the ASEAN Secretariat, Hibiscus Hall to showcase the richness of Southeast Asia’s street food. A wide variety of signature dishes such as satay, pad thai, nasi uduk and Vietnamese spring rolls and desserts were prepared by spouses of the ASEAN Permanent Missions to ASEAN as members of the AWC. The fund raised by the festival was donated for the improvement and future of the street children in Jakarta.
“The sumptuous food galore and their tempting fragrances indeed capture the true picture of ASEAN: We are diverse, yet complementing and enriching each other. Most importantly, street food is people’s food. This Festival therefore truly brings into live ASEAN’s aspiration as a people-oriented, people-centred Community,” said H.E. Dr. AKP Mochtan, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community & Corporate Affairs in his remarks.
The event was not only to promote the traditional culinary of the South-east Asia region but also traditional goods such as clothing, shoes, fashion accessories, pre-packed foods were also sold at the mini bazaar. The festival was truly a success with the support of many parties, such as Singapore Airlines, Cebu Pacific Air, Oishi, Indofood and Stretchline as the sponsors. There were also many lucky draw prizes, from Air Tickets to souvenirs to gift baskets.
