As a Regional Professional Association for South East Asia, the ASEAN Public Relations Network (APRN) has a responsibility to create a regional development plan for the Public Relations Profession. The Development of the professional standards must start from both the Academe and the Current Professionals. The intersecting programs of theories, practice and regional influences must reflect on the development plan of the association. The ASEAN Public Relations Network shall have an active role as advisor in the development and maintenance of education programs to ensure they reflect current theory, practice, professional values and cross-cultural acceptability.

In this line of mission, APRN Managing Director Gesille Sedra Buot had a meeting with the council members of Institute of PR Malaysia headed by its President Dato’ Haji Ibrahim Abdul Rahman and Deputy President Jaffri Amin Osman. The meeting on 12 May 2015 in Kuching, Sarawak Malaysia is aimed to discuss the “JOURNEY THROUGH THE ROAD, The ASEAN PR Network Road” blueprint and this a comprehensive plan to develop a roadmap of competencies for professionals in the practice of public relations in the ASEAN region.

APRN aims to solicit feedback and contribution to the content of the proposed competency framework for ASEAN Public Relations from PR leaders of the 10 ASEAN member states. It is the goal of the ASEAN Public Relations Network to promote and enhance the profession and its status to the broader community as it enforces the highest standards of ethical practice and represents public relations practitioners in the best interests of the profession.
