ASEAN Public Relations Network (APRN) held it’s 1st ASEAN Public Relations Summit at Harris Hotel Batam Center – Batam last February 5, 2015 with the theme “Public Relations Practices in the ASEAN Economic Community: Friendship and Mutual Understanding Among ASEAN Practitioners “. This activity presented a panel discussion with speakers of practitioners of Public Relations (PR) and academics communications representatives in the ASEAN countries.
The panel discussion is divided into two sessions with two different topics, namely “The PR Ethics Practice in AEC” with speaker Arif Prabowo -Head of Corporate Communications PT. Telkom, Tbk, Agung Laksamana, M.Sc, IAPR -Chairman of the Public Relations Association of Indonesia (Indonesia), Kathy O’Brien -Managing Director of Red Shoe Communications (Singapore) and Ramon R. Osorio -VP / Head of Corporate Communications ABS -CBN and President of the Public Relations Society of The Philippines (Philippines) and moderated by Leila Djafaar, SS, MM, IAPR-EVP Head of Corporate Affairs of Bank Permata (Indonesia), Tbk for the first session.
In the second session, the topics discussed were “Cross Cultural & PR in AEC” with speaker Dato ‘Haji Ibrahim Abdul-Rahman, Director General Department of Information Ministry of Communication and Multimedia and President of the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (Malaysia), N.Nurlaela Arif-Head of Corporate Communication PT. Biopharma, Gatot Broto S.Dewa V-Deputy State Minister for Youth and Sports Affairs (Indonesia) and Prof.Dr. Parichart Sthapitanonda P.hD – Professor at the Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University (Thailand) and moderated by Troy Pantouw, S. Psi, MA, IAPR Communication Director of Danone Aqua, for the second session.
“Competition for professionals working in the field of PR has increased along with the openness of this profession for any person who meets the necessary qualifications. We have no choice but to prepare and improve ourselves including our self-confidence as PR. Therefore, APRN has a role to provide a platform for PR Practitioners in ASEAN for networking, friendship, interconnecting and collaboration. I believe with the connectivity and ties of PR practitioners and academicians in ASEAN will make us stronger, better and more impactful to face challenges beyond ASEAN” said Prita Kemal Gani, MCIPR, APR (UK) -President of APRN.
ASEAN Public Relations Network (APRN) was inaugurated on June 2, 2014 at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia. Starting from the idea of Prita Kemal Gani MBA, MCIPR, APR, Founder and Director of the London School of Public Relations (LSPR) – Jakarta as well as Chairman of PERHUMAS 2011-2014 of Indonesia, together with Krishnasamy Bhavani, MA, President of the Institute of Public Relations of Singapore 2002 – 2009 and Shameem Abdul Jalil, APR, FIPR, Former President of the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia 2003 – 2007, the leaders of the organization’s public relations then took the initiative to establish a forum for the PR ASEAN to connect, make friends and build mutual understanding towards the ASEAN Community and when it is established, it is able to continue to collaborate and become the voice of the ASEAN which will strengthen ASEAN in the eyes of the world. After the inauguration ceremony last June 3, 2014, APRN held The First ASEAN Public Relations Network Conference held in Prof. Djajusman Auditorium & Performance Hall, LSPR – Jakarta.
