The Association Workshop was conducted on the day one of the ASEAN PR Conference 2017, which is held on 20-23 September 2017 in The Trans Resort, Bali. Up to 56 PR professionals around the globe, including Ireland, Brazil, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Australia, and New Zealand participated in this full day workshop. They discussed about any action association should work to achieve a more effective communication strategy across regions. The event hosted extraordinary speakers, amongst whom are PR leaders from New Zealand, Spain, Canada, and Brazil.

Association Leaders workshop brought up important topic on how association leaders can sustain their association and businesses, as a face of PR works globally. It targeted PR leaders from global associations and during the discussion, participants were able to ask speakers any question about strategies to ensure the sustainability and development of professional associations. Speakers include Fiona Cassidy, Former President of Public Relations Institute of New Zealand, JoseVelasco, Chair of the Global Alliance for Public Relations, and Daniel Tisch, CEO of Argyle Public Relations.

“One of PR problems in the world is, a lot of PR professional works are still considered as ‘firefighter‘ means they will only work while crisis happens. Whereas, PR and communication play more important roles. With this event, we will discuss about how we should deal and value the communication process more which also start from the leaders. Apart from Association Leaders, this one day session also included workshop for Call for Abstract scholars after showcasing their best researches about 50 years achievement in ASEAN, particularly in communication. With a theme “How to Get into Academic Journals,” speakers include Prof. Anne Gregory, Professor of Corporate Communications, University of Huddenrsfield (United Kingdom) and Prof Gregor Halff, Professor and Deputy Dean at Singapore Management University & Co-Chair ASEAN PR Conference Committee.

During the Call for Abstract workshop, scholars were filled with new knowledges about how to get into academic journals. Several key points on the workshop include generating publishable ideas, the publishing process from start to finish, exploiting the publications, and writing cases. From 25 accepted papers, ASEAN PR Network and Global Alliance of Public Relations and Communication Management chose the Top 3 Best Abstracts to be published in The Journal of Communication Management by Emerald Group Publishing. It is listed by Scopus, a bibliography database of academic abstracts and articles with more than 22,000 titles from up to 5,000 publishers worldwide; which will gain more attention to drive any change in every aspect of PR and communication works globally.
